The region of the Chiquitania owns this generic name to the province of Chiquitos, by the original inhabitants of the region, Chiquitos or the Chiquitanos, where the Jesuitical missions settled down from second half of century XVII. The Jesuitical missions of Chiquitos have their beginning in the foundation of the town of San Javier, follow San Rafael (1696).
