UYUNI SALT FLAT

The salt lake, the biggest in the world is located to the west of Uyuni and the southeast of Bolivia to a height of 3.700 m.a.s.l. With an extension approximately of 12.000 km². It is said that it has a depth of 120 meters. The first 6 meters is of pure salt and the rest contains among the elements of salt, boron, magnesium, sodium, potassium and other, the element but important it is the lithium considered strategic mineral of world requirement, the quantity of salt is considered in 64.000 million tons.
Being salted extends like an enormous plane and white platform. That infinite extension is the rest of a sea that filled the whole highland to the Titikaka Lake and in the course of many millions of years, the sea disappeared. Today the Titikaka Lake, the Poopo Lake, and the salt lakes of Coipasa and Uyuni are the remains of this sea of then and the great one Uyuni Salt Lake. Uyuni Salt Lake is a plain of singular beauty for its impressive mirror of salt.

POPULATION OF COLCHANI:

The population of Colchani is to the banks of the great Salt Lake, to 22 kilometers to the north of Uyuni. It serves from main entrance to the desert of salt, also known as "Dry Port", where the intense activity of extraction of salt is observed in handmade form. The residents taught us the drying process, milled and pocketed of the salt, ready 1for the consumption, as well as the visitor can appreciate the rustic built housings with adobe and blocks of salt, roofed with brave straw. These materials allow to conserve a warm climate in its interior and this way face the drops temperatures that register during the whole year in the region.

HOTEL OF SALT:

Located in the middle of Uyuni Salt Lake, built with blocks of salt, so much external as interior, the walls, floor, beds, tables, seats, everything of salt with a beautiful view to the salt lake. The hotel nowadays can be visited being considered as a museum.

ISLAND INCAHUASI (ISLAND OF THE FISH):

Located amid the desert of salt, the Island Incahuasi generally well-known as "The Island of the Fish" populated by numerous giants cactus with heights superior to 10 meters, from the summit you can contemplate the wonderful landscape of the Salt Lake.

RED LAGOON:

The Red lagoon is inside the National Reservation Eduardo Avaroa, in the highland of Potosi to 4,280 m.a.s.l., with a surface of 60 km2. It is a multicolored lake where the reddish tones prevail; the red water is because of the flooding of zooplacton silts, fitoplacton and others. The lagoon harbors the biggest population in flamingos

GREEN LAGOON:

Located to the feet of the volcano Llicancabur, to a height of 4.350 m.a.s.l., with a surface of 17 km2, its extraordinary color is due to the high content of sulfur of magnesium that possess the geologic formations of the area. There, the attractiveness takes place when the sun enters to the zenith.
The most beautiful journeys are for its banks, from where you can get spectacular panoramic views, so much as the lagoon and the surrounding hills are a contrast of colors that are reflected by the mirror of water of the lagoon. The volcano Llicancabur is put out, it is in the west of the Green Lagoon, with a height of 5.868 m.a.s.l. and it is the border limit between the republics of Chile and Bolivia.
To be able to climb to the summit of this mountain 5 hours are required approximately of ascent and another so much of slope, for the marked rocky slope that possesses and the strong winds that run to a speed in more occasions to 100 Km. per hour.
It has an almost perfect conical form and for the great height that has, brave and gramineous, there is a very little straw vegetation that grows at the level of the floor.
From the summit of this interesting volcano you can feel the strong winds that originate in the ocean Pacific, you can also have panoramic views of the numerous existent lagoons inside and outside of the park and deep valleys.

SUN RAISING - GEYSERS:

Located to an hour of trip from the Red lagoon. In this place are the geysers, intermittent sources of water that sprout to a temperature of 90° C and fumaroles, cracks for where it leaves volcanic lava. Reason for which is recommended to observe from a considerable distance for the sensibility of the land

CEMETERY OF TRAINS - UYUNI:

In this town, are the most important remains in railroad machinery that date from 1890, they can be observed in their masterpieces, well-known as "The cemetery of trains". To 22 Km. from this city that was very important in the transfer of minerals at the end of the XIX century, you will be able to also observe the first train that operated in Bolivia and others that were assaulted by the famous American villainous Butch Cassidy yndance Kid
